Lakelands Suggestions please

Hi folks, I am off to the Lakes for a couple of nights......forecast is pretty rotten but I am up for some serious walking. Looking for suggestions for the best walk in the Langdales? Also, a good walk out of Ambleside.....and finally, anything worth doing from Troutbeck or in that general neck of the woods? Any suggestions greatfully received. Thanks

  1. For a serious walk in my opinion the best in the Langdales is Crinkle Crags and Bowfell although navigation across the Crinkles can be a bit tricky if the clag comes in and the best route on to the Crinkles is via Pike O Blisco - love that fell! Have fun whatever you do - anything in the Langdales is fab - the route up to Stickle Tarn and on to the Langdale Pikes is brilliant too

  2. Hope I'm not too late. I can see from recent posts that you aren't deterred by dodgy weather so...
In Langdale you're spoiled for choice, almost anything on the Pikes is good. Pike O'Blisco too. I would go up Crinkle Gill which is wonderfully enclosed without being a too tricky scramble. From the top of the gill I think there are several ways to continue, via the scree slopes of Mickledor or left up to Gladstone Knott or apparently up Crinkle Buttress:

If you do Bowfell from Crinkle Crags, don't follow the huge obvious path but take to the easy crags right of that path which give a quieter, more interesting ascent. (Easy, Grade 1 scrambling).

  3. From Ambleside, Loughrigg is fun, or there's the Fairfield Horseshoe. A favourite of ours, from either Ambleside of Troutbeck (but parking is free in Troutbeck) is over Wansfell Pike and back by the Jenkin Crag, High Skelghyll, Robin Lane track.
    Have a good time!

  4. Thanks folks, I ended up doing a round in the Langdales from Blea Tarn over Blisco up Stake Pass onto Pike O Stickle, Harrison Stickle and back via Dungeon Gill. Fairfield Horseshoe the next day, what an absoloute belter!!
